the armament and ammunition asked for (I think this has been done in another case where a Colonial Government lent guns to the Imperial Government).
On the other hand if the fact of the stores belonging to the Colonial Government has not been overlooked I doubt very much the expediency of asking the Union Government at this stage to pay for them, but this is a matter for the Dominions Division to
say.
The whole question of replacing the arms and ammunition in possession of the Local Forces in the Colonies by S.M.L.E. rifles and Mark VII ammuni- tion will, I hope, come up shortly for consideration by the O.D.C. but I would suggest in the meantime Bending a copy of the Governor's letter to the W.0. asking for their observations.
